It’s a presence of fear.
That thing you were considering—now you feel you aren’t “passionate” enough about it to pursue.
The business you thought of starting. The video you were going to film. The degree you thought about getting.
You’re telling yourself you aren’t passionate about it. And therefore it’s not worth doing.
You’re wrong.
Passion has nothing to do with it. You’re just scared.
Scared of starting. Scared of failing. Unsure of what it will look like once you commit.
To paraphrase Seth Godin: if it scares you, it’s a pretty good sign you should try to do it.

HI Nathan! This is Jan, your uncle Jeff’s wife—which I guess makes me your aunt! Actually, saying that about myself makes me feel old. All of my aunties were old.
Jeff and I were chatting about you, and it occurred to us that we don’t know how to get in touch with you, other than through this email. Would you mind sending me your phone number? I’ll pass it on to Jeff.
Thanks much, Jan

Thanks much! How’s life there? It’s cool that you’ve reactivated your blog. I don’t know where you find the energy to write it so often, though. I managed to turn out one a month when was blogging . . . which I should probably restart . . . procrastinating . . .
We are loving life in Maine. We ended up in a cool little village with really interesting people and have been spending a lot of time outside, hiking, sailing, etc. Our kind of place. Portland is a really nice city, and it’s 40 minutes away. Life isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty darn good. Mud season, late March to early May, is awful—cold, gray, freezing rain or wet snow that immediately thaws. But other than that, we like it a lot—and in mud season we can escape and go south.
If you guys want to come up some time, let us know. You could fly into Portland and use our car to go off exploring. Just an idea. Let us know well in advance, though, because we get A LOT of requests from people who want to come visit. We’ve decided not to spend all summer running a B&B. Give us as much notice as you can—especially if you’d like to use our car! Much love to you and Teresa, Jan

That sounds like a fantastic place to live, Jan!
Theresa and I are trying to figure out where we want to live next… Mississippi is growing stale. Maine sounds AMAZING!
We will definitely come visit (maybe sometime next year?). We’ll give plenty of heads-up.
As for the energy to write, it’s less energy and more just a decision I made once… Write every day. Don’t judge it, just write. Learned that from my mentor, Seth Godin 🙂
And I go through my days just “noticing” thing… And using the blog to extrapolate on what I notice. It’s just a nice little practice I do for myself. And some folks seem to like it 😀
