“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.”
—James A. Michener
This blog exists because it can. We live in perhaps the most open time we’ll ever experience, and it allows us to create and share for free. To paraphrase an oft-quoted line: the best time to start a blog was 20 years ago. The next best time is today.
This blog is for me, a place to stretch a writing and thinking muscle that would otherwise atrophy. But it might also be for you. I hope something resonates.
While you’re here, subscribe to my blog. I post something new every day.

Dear Nathan Coumbe,
Hello! It seems that I am the first person to arrive here and to leave a comment. What a distinctive and revelatory self-introduction you have composed here with respect to your occupation and aspiration! I am now a new follower of your blog.
I have perused many of your pages and posts, many of which have a fair amount of maturity of thoughts, so much so that I have subscribed to your blog.
May you find the rest of 2022 very much to your liking and highly conducive to your “wear[ing] a lot of hats throughout the day – writer, musician, artist, techie, historian, and wannabe philosopher”, and to your writing, reading, thinking and blogging whatever topics that accommodate your intellectual fantasy and philosophical reverie!
Wishing you a productive week doing or enjoying whatever that satisfies you the most!
Yours sincerely,
SoundEagle

SoundEagle,
Apparently I don’t get notifications when someone posts on this page, but I get them on the blog posts. So I apologize most profusely for failing to respond to your kind comment.
I am truly touched by what you wrote here, and I hope you continue to benefit from being a reader. I am grateful for your attention, as it is the most precious resource you own. I hope to remain worthy of it.
I wish you a tremendously successful 2025 and 2026!
—Nathan
